Appointments

Registered patients can book appointments by telephoning 03000 33 22 33 and speaking to a member of the reception team or you can come into the practice and book an appointment. You may also book appointments using our online services (you will need to be registered for this service)

Appointments are booked in 10 minute slots. If you feel that you may need longer please ask when booking your appointment and we will try to accommodate you request. If you would like to see a specific GP or would prefer to see a male or female GP please tell us when booking your appointment and we will try to facilitate your request where we are able to do so.v

Please note: appointments with specific GPs may not be available on the day of booking. 


Cancellations

If you cannot attend a booked appointment please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. Please telephone 03000 33 22 33 to cancel 


Non-attendance for appointments                                                                                     

The practice has experienced a high number of patients who do not attend (DNA) for their pre-booked appointments. This is obviously costly to the practice both in terms of money and appointment time. The practice has therefore introduced a "DNA Policy" in order to address, monitor and deal with patients who regularly miss their pre-booked appointments. 

Each patient who misses their appointment will be sent a text advising them that they have missed their appointment and advising that they may be deducted if they miss more than three appointments in a 12 month period. 

Any patient who misses more than three appointments will be sent a letter advising that they may be deducted if they miss further appointments. 

If after receiving a letter the patient continues to regularly miss booked appointments their registration and DNA status will be discussed by the practice management team. Taking the patients individual circumstances and health conditions into consideration the practice will decide whether to go ahead with the deduction. If the practice decides to remove the patient from the practice list the patient will be notified in writing with a copy to the local Practitioner Services Unit. This is done as a last resort when nothing else has worked. 

When a patient is deducted they will have up to 30 days to find another practice. We will send a list of other local practices to the patient in order to help them find another practice.


Violence and Aggression                                                    

If a patient becomes aggressive or violent towards staff they will be removed from the practice premises immediately and a decision will be made whether to deduct them depending on the circumstances. 

If a patient is aggressive or violent towards another patient or member of the public they will be removed from the practice premises immediately and the police may be called. They will also be deducted and the practice may recommend that they are registered on the "Patient Safe Treatment Scheme" 

Filming of consultations constitutes aggressive behaviour and will not be tolerated at the practice. If you feel you need to record a consultation for any reason the consultation will be ended and you will be asked to leave the practice immediately. 


Unregistered (walk-in) Patients

You may be seen as a walk-in patient at the practice if you are visiting, living in or working in West Hertfordshire. You may be seen for a range of primary health conditions for which you are not already receiving treatment by your own GP.  

  • Minor illnesses
  • Seasonal illnesses
  • Childhood illnesses

This will be limited by what we can safely do without access to your medical history, for example, treatment for long term pre-diagnosed conditions.

There are some things that we cannot do for you, including: 

  • Referral to other services unless for an acute problem
  • Blood Tests or any other diagnostic tests
  • Repeat Medications - we will only provide a five day supply of regular medications with supporting information from your own GP practice
  • Prescribing - we do NOT prescribe certain medications such as controlled drugs or some pain relieving medication
  • Ear Syringing
  • Medical Certificates or letters to employers
